The first mistake I see with people starting off in marketing is not believing in themselves. You are the CEO. It’s not up to anyone else but yourself to be successful. This isn’t about your ability to be a CEO, this is about your position. Tony Robbins says, “It’s never resources, it’s resourcefulness.” You need to become the CEO in your mind and spirit. What will follow is success.
You need to lead with value. This isn’t about what you can get, but about what you can offer. The more you offer the more you will receive. This is a foreign concept in this modern-day world. But if you look deep into your soul, you will realize that you are also the happiest when you are offering rather than receiving. We need to give before we get, and without expectation. This is where many people struggle. When you give with expectations, you are setting yourself up for frustration and disappointment. Give freely and with happiness.
Another mistake I often see is begging. You never want to beg or plead with your prospects/clients. Asking people to please come to your grand opening as a favor to you, is not a successful CEO mentality. This is a beggers mentality and will only lead to a beggers reward: scraps, charity and pity.
As a marketer you are in the business of helping others. Keep this as your focus and you will find contentment and success.
