Coca Cola, Network Marketing, and The American Dream

What does the most recognized brand in the world, a business opportunity and the ethos of the United States of America have in common?

Well in The Philosophy of Andy Warhol, by Andy Warhol in 1975, he writes, “What's great about this country is …You can be watching TV and see Coca-Cola, and you know that the President drinks Coke, Liz Taylor drinks Coke, and just think, you can drink Coke, too. A Coke is a Coke and no amount of money can get you a better Coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the Cokes are the same and all the Cokes are good. Liz Taylor knows it, the President knows it, the bum knows it, and you know it.”

In Network Marketing we all start on the same playing field. Whether you are a successful lawyer or a stay at home Mom, we are given the exact same opportunity. Network Marketing doesn’t give preference to anyone and everyone is equal. Like the American Dream, we succeed on our own merits. A high school dropout may do better than an economics professor. Wikipedia’s definition of The American Dream is a set of ideals in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success, and an upward social mobility achieved through hard work.

 James Truslow Adams in 1931 wrote in his book The Epic of America. "that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement. It is a difficult dream for the European upper classes to interpret adequately, and too many of us ourselves have grown weary and mistrustful of it. It is not a dream of motor cars and high wages merely, but a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position."

Like the Europeans in Adams book, most of us find equal opportunities a difficult dream to interpret adequately. Too many have grown weary and mistrustful of it. Network Marketing is an equal opportunity that can provide people with the ability to trust that dream and to enjoy, once again, the idea of sharing the same ‘bottle of Coke’,
